Topping-out ceremony for extension building

Topping-out ceremony cleanLASER Dornkaulstr. 8 in Herzogenrath

About 30 companies in the region have been involved in the expansion of Clean-Lasersysteme GmbH (cleanLASER) in Herzogenrath so far. Now the shell of the building in Dornkaulstraße with a usable area of 3,000 m² is spread over three full storeys with underground car park.

Together with all the builders, employees and representatives of the city and the building authorities, the successful shell construction phase was concluded with a topping-out ceremony on May 19.

“When planning the extension, we initially assumed that we would sublet part of the building,” explains Edwin Büchter. “But already now we will fill the premises completely with the production of the laser systems. We are currently converting the existing neighboring building into a research, development and technology center. We are still looking for new employees, e.g. engineers and employees for worldwide service.”

Christoph von den Driesch, Mayor of Herzogenrath, praised the good cooperation between city and company as well as the successful development of cleanLASER true to the motto “Start – Grow – Invest”. After the formal part, the band “Four Live”, sponsored by the Lamers construction company, provided the atmosphere.

20 years cleanLASER

Clean-Lasersysteme GmbH has its origins in the Institute for Laser Technology (ILT) in Aachen. A lot has happened in the last 20 years: Today more than 110 employees work at cleanLASER in Kohlscheid and there are about 20 distribution partners worldwide.

The site for the neighbouring extension was acquired by the managing directors Edwin Büchter and Dr. Winfried Barkhausen after receiving the German Environmental Award. The laser systems are used for cleaning and pretreatment primarily in industrial series production by almost all German automotive manufacturers and suppliers, in mechanical engineering and in aerospace technology. The process is particularly precise and environmentally friendly.

The laser systems are currently being manufactured in Aixtron’s rented production halls in Kohlscheid. The major move to the new building on Dornkaulstraße is scheduled for spring 2018. So far, construction is several weeks ahead of schedule. The optical components, laser systems and fully automatic machines will then be manufactured in the extension building.
